How successful is a deviated septum operation?

Question by Rajat B: How successful is a deviated septum operation?
Hello everyone… I have been having problems with breathing and snoring… When I visited an ENT specialist the first thing he did was look at my nasal passage and recommended a surgery for deviated nasal septum. I have tried hard to find a simple answer to a simple question but have been unable to find one. All I want to know is “How effective is the surgery and what are the chances of getting rid of snoring”

Can someone please reply as early as possible?

Thanks in Advance

Rajat

It can be affective to help snoring also adenoids can cause snoring and the position that you sleep in also can have an effect.

  1. It is very effective. I had the operatioin over 25 years ago and never regretted it. It takes a lot longer to heal up from it than they tell you.About 6 months before you heal completely.

  2. My husband had the surgery. He was bed ridden for 12 days. It was the best thing that he ever did and he thanks me almost daily for having him do it. He had sleep apnea because of it (stopped breathing during sleep) and could have died of a stroke from it. Also, I was not getting any sleep trying to breath for him…silly but true. He said that since the surgery, he gets a way better sleep and knows that it saved his life. Go for it, but have a close friend or family member be there with you from the day of the surgery til the 12th day, so that you can heal quickly with help. Good luck.

  3. very effective my brother and my cousin both had the surgery and both are snore free so i would say go for it it will be worth it for you and you will be happy with the result
