Question by LS: Have you ever heard a cat snore?
We have a female cat named Jewel that adopted us…she came out of no where by literally showing up on our front door step, but did have some tameness about her so she wasn’t completely wild.
Jewel does the funniest thing when she is sleeping hard, which is snoring! I’ve had cats most of my adult life and never heard of that before.
Anyone out there with a simular story? And should I be concerned?
Thank you Angelpaws for making a good point- Jewel’s breathing does sound clear and she doesn’t have any drainage coming from her nose. She is currently NOT snoring because the dryer startled her awake. But she may later on…

Nah, I’ve heard cats snore. I don’t think it’s a problem.

Hears them both snore – mainly when they seem to be in a deep sleep, so cute, unlike husbands snoring!!!
I used to have a cat who snored… and I always thought it was cute and funny. Not anymore though, turned out he had cancer and was having difficulty breathing. He’s been gone since 10/18/2006. Sounds like you really care about her, take her to your vet please and have her looked at, they can’t hear cancer they have to do x-rays, I so wish I would have had x-rays done and not just had them listen to him if I had he’d still be with me.
If you feel the need to be concerned, then be concerned. It might be a sinus infection, it might not. It IS normal for a cat to snore on occasion, but if the breathing sounds laboured or difficult or exceptionally mucous-y – then rather get your vet to check it out.
Yes, they snore, they twitch, snarl and run (call it dreaming if you will) all the time when they are asleep.

Yes our cat snores. We got him from an animal rescue centre and when they found him he was a kitten who had been kept by an old lady in a freezing cold garage with no heating. He sneezed all the time and had a terrible cough (i know sounds strange). I think it permanently affected him because he snores when he sleeps.
The rest of his litter were brain damaged from the conditions… poor things. We would have had them too, but they were already spoken for.
My cat snores. There isn’t anything to worry about. Its so funny, When my husband and I get board and sneezer, that’s her name. Self explanatory, Anyways when she is sleeping, and startes to snore, we will get the recorder out and record it. Then when she stops cause she is about to wake up we will play it back. And she will get so mad and turn her noise up at us lol.

Yep, everyday. We have a cat name the Rock and he snores everyday. The vet says it is allergies for the most part. It is nothing really to worry about. But I do have one question. Is the cat overweight??? Now if the answer is yes, you may want to get some of the weight off him as weight can make fluid build up around his heart and lungs. If the answer is no, then just cuddle up with the snoring darling and good night.
Hi there again Lyn… I had a senior cat whose snoring sounded like a wheeze/whine. It was so cute that I couldn’t but help but grin as it was adorable. It’s one of the endearing memories of him (God rest his little spirit) that I hold dear to my heart. Anyhow, snoring is quite common with many cats especially among flat-faced breeds and aging cats.

Do Cats Snore?
Most of us will readily admit to being woken up in the middle of the night by our husband’s (or wife’s) imitation of an oncoming locomotive, but by our cat’s snoring? You don’t mean that delicate little creature peacefully grooming herself on your bed right now? Alas, a new study conducted at the Mayo Clinic has found out the terrible truth: Of the people who say they allow their pet to sleep in the bedroom with them at night, snoring was reported in 21 percent of dogs and (gasp!) 7 percent of cats.
oh hell ya I had a cat that snored and it was funny as hell but that same cat topped that one time that same cat realy did this to he barked like a dog that is no lie and no im not on drug’s it’s the truth this cat was soo cool he even asked to be let out to go to the bathroom and i swear to god he thought he was a dog and he was the best mouser you would have ever seen and on time that cat from a sitting position jumped straight up in the air about six feet and caught a bird in flight it was an amazing thing to see joey was one bad ass cat and way cool he did’nt like anyone but me and slept at the foot of my bed every night and when I went to work he went to work at his job every day mousing
I have three cats. My two smaller cats do not snore. My larger one, a big ginger cat snores a lot! He makes a lot of noise all of the time.
He almost constantly purrs. When he’s not purring you can hear him breathing. When he sleeps you can either hear him breathing or snoring.
The vet said it’s nothing to worry about; it’s just something to do with the way he is. He’s a large cat (not fat, just large). He’s not aloud to eat dry food because it will give him liver problems. They’re both things his type of cat is just predisposed to.
Take you cat to the vet and have him checked out just to make sure. Good luck!
YES!! my cat does, it’s sooo funny,and cute, I think they snore for the same reason we do, they just aren’t breathing right through their nose…
Yes, we’ve had cats that snore – some just cute little snores, all the way to fairly loud. Don’t worry unless you notice a breathing problem, or if it bugs you, just change the cat’s position when he is sleeping.
My cat was snoring last week. It was pretty loud too!! She doesn’t snore often though.
My cat snores all the time. It’s the funniest thing. Nothing to worry about.
My cat snores at night and it gets really annoying weve taken him to the vet but he says there isnt anything wrong and there isnt anything we can really do to stop it…sucky thing is, he sleeps in my room.
